Ernie was always the gentleman of the team and as an ex Royal Marine he was always ready to get stuck in even at the age of late forties / early fifties.
Ernie was an active sportsman, a fierce competitor and a successful businessman. He would be proud to know that we have re-built a new Falmouth mens team and would encourage everybody here today to never give up on their sport. If he were with us today he would tell you that sport will shape you in your future endeavours and give you purpose.
All of the guys looked up to Ernie and he would turn up to a match, take his teeth out and then take the opposition out. Albeit the gentleman, what the opposition didn't know was that Ernie's motto was " the ball may get through, the player may get through, but they are not getting through together " !!!! I never saw Ernie get sent off, he was tactical and stealth and it must've been the army training but none of us could work out how he got away with his defensive play. Haha.
So when you're on the pitch always think, is it going to be the ball or the man coming through, Ernie will let you make that choice yourself.
We are running the tournament on Saturday, 10 June.
